They're already at it. As little as a week of government shutdown could cost 100K jobs. A
month would cost 2,000,000. The 2019 shutdown cost the economy $11B. Meanwhile, the fed
is now concerned with reducing job growth, not just inflation, as the economy is seriously
overheated.

Another 253,000 jobs were added in April.

You mean "sabotage" like the FACTS of real economic decline, massive

Unless things improve drastically, the Republican nominee can simply campaign on "are you better
off now than 4 years ago?" And then back up the points with data.
The problem is many people will vote for the Democrats anyway hoping things will improve (see
Germany pre WW2 for examples of this) because they consider it a vote against Trump.

The unsurprising failure with that strategy is that so many Americans are.

They are?

"Real average hourly earnings decreased 1.8 percent, seasonally
adjusted, from January 2022 to January 2023, the BLS reported
separately Tuesday. The change in real average hourly earnings
combined with an increase of 0.3 percent in the average workweek
resulted in a 1.5-percent decrease in real average weekly earnings
over this period."

Historic inflation rates:

Shortages continue. A year later the baby formula shortage continues:

"The baby formula shortage in the US is not as dire now as when it
began in 2022, when stock reached deep lows and triggered a political
crisis for Joe Biden. But many families in America still struggle to
find formula, facing empty shelves and unremitting stress. Stockouts
of certain brands and limitations in stores persist, especially in
rural areas with fewer options."

I hate to break it to you, but Biden is a turnip.
Then what does that make speaker McCarthy who found Biden to be no pushover in

Biden? Is that the same Biden who said the debt ceiling was non-negotiable?

It really doesn't look like there's going to be one. The Republiscums/QAnon
weren't merely predicting one — they were *hoping* for one.

One problem with the jobs news is it is going to make it harder to squeeze
inflation out.

The rate of decrease has slowed but it's still dropping at 4.93%.

Republicans have long said that excessive spending will drive inflation. They're right,
of course. Trump and Congress poured trillions unnecessarily into the economy and the
2022-2023 inflation surge is the payment for it.

Oh look, selective editing:

"The unemployment rate, which is compiled from a separate survey,
paints a less rosy picture.

Unemployment, which been at a half century low, inched up in May to
3.7%. Meanwhile, the jobless rate among African Americans rose to
5.6%, after falling to a record low in April. "

"There is a tension in Biden’s approach to the GOP. His initial rationale for running was
that the GOP is largely hostage to an extremism that foundationally threatens the American
experiment. His reelection case is that he has begun to defuse that threat and another
term will complete that task.

Yet Biden also plainly believes that conducting the nation’s business on a bipartisan
basis is inherently stabilizing. That sometimes requires treating the opposition — or a
large swath of it — as a mostly conventional political party, which risks mitigating
perceptions of the threat it poses."

The Republicans promised me a recession a year and a half ago. WHERE IS IT??

Oh the signs are there. The media picks and chooses on what to
report:

"With mortgage rates surging ever higher, crossing over 7% again on
the 30-year fixed Thursday, according to Mortgage News Daily,
homeowners have very little incentive to sell their homes. The vast
majority of homeowners with mortgages have rates below 4%, with some
even below 3%."

https://www.cnbc.com/2023/06/29/house-hunting-is-about-to-get-harder.html

"According to Chris Frey, senior manager of Economic and Industry
Insights at Cox Automotive: “The retail used-vehicle story is still
being influenced by inventory, which is near the lowest point in our
data set, which goes back to 2019. The tight inventory is holding
prices higher, but our team also believes that high interest rates and
elevated retail prices are hurting demand. Wholesale prices have been
coming down in recent months, which likely means lower retail prices
are on the horizon.”"

https://www.coxautoinc.com/market-insights/estimated-monthly-used-vehicle-saar-and-volume/

"Hatch is part of a growing cohort of Americans facing auto
repossessions, an ominous sign for the US economy. During the
pandemic, a surge in used car prices forced buyers to take out bigger
loans for their vehicles. The monthly payments seemed doable in an era
of stimulus checks, a tight labor market and surging stocks, but
that’s changed for many people as inflation eats into their budgets
and the job market cools"

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-01-27/car-repossessions-grow-as-inflation-slams-consumers

Interest rates and inflation are causing a major drag on the economy.
When people stop buying because they can't afford big ticket items
what is the obvious outcome?

Of course not and this is where Joe Biden fails.
He simply does not understand the concept of peace through strength.
He is a weak foreign policy POTUS.
The Afghanistan withdrawal is proof positive of that. His catering to China is further proof that
he has been compromised. Spy balloons flying over the USA unimpeded?
Really?

The closer is, why didn't all of this happen under Trump?
Korea aggression with missile l testing.
Ukraine invasion.
China squawking about Taiwan.
Saudi Arabia laughing at Biden begging for oil that we have plenty of here at home.
Etc

Biden is a disaster.

Cute, but you have no data to back up your claims.

I like $1.75 / gallon gas.

Don't look now, the emperor has no clothes:

"LeSage is among a growing number of Americans who have found
themselves confronting financial hardship as the U.S. economy has
slowed. On Thursday, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis reported
gross domestic product fell to 1.1% in the first quarter, the lowest
reading in nine months. The GDP is the value of the final goods and
services produced in the country and a strong indicator of how healthy
the U.S. economy.
Strapped for cash

The slowdown is starting to show up in Americans' personal finances.
According to a recent survey from Bankrate, 49% of U.S. adults have
less savings compared to a year ago. Ten percent of those surveyed
said they have no savings at all.

The upshot: The most disastrous outcomes for U.S. households, like
auto repossessions and home foreclosures, have begun to climb.

“As a result of the expiration of government stimulus and current
[economic] headwinds, we have seen delinquencies ticking up in this
space over the last several months,” said Margaret Rowe, a senior
director at Fitch ratings group.

Fitch data show U.S. auto loan delinquencies among subprime borrowers
have just about returned to pre-pandemic levels from the record low
set in summer 2021.

Meanwhile, home foreclosure filings have begun to surge. According to
data from ATTOM, a property analytics company, U.S. foreclosure
filings totaled 95,712 in the first quarter of 2023. That's 6% higher
than in the previous quarter and 22% higher than a year ago.

March alone saw 36,617 U.S. properties in foreclosure, a 20% increase
compared to February and 10% higher than a year ago. It was the 23rd
consecutive month with a year-over-year increase in foreclosure
activity."

No, getting out of Afghanistan was Trump’s policy, done with a timeline that

He is a weak foreign policy POTUS.
The Afghanistan withdrawal is proof positive of that. His catering to China is further proof that
he has been compromised. Spy balloons flying over the USA unimpeded?
Really?
So why do you want to reelect idjt in 2024?
Cute, but you have no data to back up your claims.
It was Trump who signed the Afghanistan retreat treaty, plus before 2021, had reduced
US troop strength on the ground to less than 2500.
Which of course has nothing to do with how Biden chose to do the
removal of troops.
Wrong, for Biden followed the international agreement, which even though
we can claim that the deal sucked, to nevertheless not break our promise
thus advanced US soft power.
Once again Biden had no hesitation whatsoever about reversing Trump
policies. If he didn't reverse this one, it's on Biden.
How is he supposed to have a foreign power obey him?
What? We're talking about Biden pulling our troops out and doing a
poor job of it. You can blame Trump if you'd like but it was Biden's
call since he implemented the policy. The buck stops there.

"According to him, the recent analysis published by the State
Department on the matter serves as a cover-up for President Joe
Biden's administration.

"The Biden Admin's Afghanistan report is a cover-up. They try to pass
the blame but don't explain why they abandoned our conditions-based
approach ... A complete failure of leadership," Pompeo tweeted on
Monday."

He has shown that he would ignore anything he chooses that Trump issued.
If that were true, Biden would have filled three additional SCOTUS vacancies.
Now you're just being a moron.
You’re the one who’s trying to claim that the POTUS has unlimited powers.
Your reading comprehension is failing you again as I never said that.

He can't now blame Trump for the policy Biden himself implemented.
No, getting out of Afghanistan was Trump’s policy, done with a timeline that
put the “gets real” part into the next Presidential term. The same is also true
for the Federal income tax increase you’re going to see after 2025.
Nope. Implementation was done by Biden during Biden's tenure.
Nope. Most of the actions on Afghanistan were already done before Biden took office.
Ditto for the 2017 TCJA: Rule of Law applies, which isn’t Soft Power.

Uh huh...

"Afghanistan was seized by the Taliban in August 2021 after a hasty US
withdrawal.

Since then, the Afghan people have been confronting worsening
economic, humanitarian, and security crises."

The hilarious part of this Biden/Trump Afghanistan argument is that Americans wanted us
out and both candidates ran on getting us out. What this means, of course, is that every
time the right blames Biden for it, they're ignoring that it was Trump who created the
pull out mess. And when the left defends Biden for it, they're ignoring that he also ran
on a platform of pulling out of Afghanistan.

Imo, we should have pulled out as soon as Bin Laden's box hit the water. His death meant
our reason for being there was over.

wasn't President on 15 Jan 2021..duh.
Excuse me, sir or madam. Could you repeat that? I've almost stopped laughing.
If "Nobody" didn't exist someone
would have to invent him, just for
entertainment value.

A strong defense policy isn't just guns.

All bullshit. Every word of it. You want foreign policy failure? Look no further than
Donald Trump who kissed Putin's ass and started a trade war with China all while pissing
off every ally we have.

Prepare for GOP sabotage!
You mean "sabotage" like the FACTS of real economic decline
That's false. In fact, economic growth is *too* strong, keeping inflation
higher than it otherwise would be.
Post by NoBody
massive inflation,
There is no "massive inflation." It's stubbornly high, but it is *falling*.

It looks like an El Nino. So things always get soggy with those.
