US President Donald Trump has been accused of showing yet more disrespect
to Pope Francis at his funeral service today in Rome as he was spotted on
his mobile phone

The US president is among the world leaders to have travelled to Rome,
joining the likes of Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Prince William. More
than 200,000 people have also crowded into St Peter’s Square to show their
respects to the Pope, who passed away on Monday. Trump has already upset
many with his choice of a blue suit over the traditional black, as well as
admitting he only made the trip over Catholic voters.

Now he has been caught fiddling with his phone and chewing gum while others
are paying rapt attention to the service, which started earlier this
morning. One unimpressed person said online: “Total disgrace. Selfinvite.
Blue suit. Hating the pope and now attending his funeral.

“Pretending to be a (very recent) super Christian but having no morals and
don't know what easter is about. And signalling during the service. Total
embarrassment.” Another person added: “Such a douchebag. Wearing blue, not
black. On his phone at the Pope's funeral. I'm an atheist, but even I show
respect for the dead. What a f*****g s**show.”

The Point here is simple: TDS is, in the eyes of its adherents, the knee-jerk opposition from liberals to anything and everything
Trump does. If Trump announced he was donating every dollar he's ever made, TDS sufferers would suggest he was up to something
nefarious, according to the logic of TDS. There's nothing - not. one. thing. - that Trump could do or say that would be received
positively by TDSers.

The history of Trump Derangement Syndrome actually goes back to the early 2000s - a time when the idea of Trump as president was
a punch line for late-night comics and nothing more.

Wikipedia traces its roots to "Bush Derangement Syndrome" - a term first coined by the late conservative columnist Charles
Krauthammer back in 2003. The condition, as Krauthammer defined it, was "the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people
in reaction to the policies, the presidency - nay - the very existence of George W. Bush."
