AUSTIN (KXAN) — A Central Texas woman is describing something
most people only have nightmares about — sitting on her toilet
in the middle of the night and being bit by a snake. She’s got
the photos to prove it.

Maria Jaimes said earlier this month, she woke up early in the
morning to use the restroom, didn’t flip the lights on and
felt something.

“The rat snake bit me in my leg when I sat on it,” she said.
“Very scary situation on a Sunday morning at 4:30 a.m. with
lights off.”

. . .

First off ... a social/cultural/evo question - WHY do so
many women just HAVE to pee in absolute darkness ??? They
will NOT turn on the bathroom light ...

Probably the origin of the complaint about leaving
the seat up/down.

Hey gals, everybody knows women pee ... often .....

Second, rat snakes are not poisonous, and indeed have
tiny teeth. But, in theory, it COULD have been a
rattlesnake or something.

CLUE - install some kind of pleasant night-light
in the loo. Many problems avoided !

Hmmm ... phosphorescent paint is pretty good these
days ... do the ceiling in it. That much area, it
will still provide 'adequate' light many hours
after the last time the lights were on.

The first time I traveled on business to Arizona the hotel handed me a brochure
at check in and it had pictures of these nasty looking creatures and suggestions
to check your shoes for scorpions, spiders and so forth before putting them on.

I couldn't believe that had all these various critters living in a 5 star hotel.
I also slept with one eye open for the 2 nights I stayed there.

Our armadillos and horn toads make
short work of scorpions, no problem here.
Some people get alarmed at our rattlesnakes
and water moccasins, but they run away from
a fight and just want to be left alone.

Found a HUGE tarantula at a Holiday Inn in El Paso once ...

Went back to the desk and asked for a room without tarantulas.

Well, critters are sneaky and always manage to get
into the works.

They keep electing Greg Abbott. What do they expect?
