The Senator Ted Kennedy Healthcare Reform Act of 2009. Forget the
repubs, get it done.

Ted Kennedy, always thinking of others and the future, wanted to
change the rules regarding a successor, since he knew you _must_
invision a world w/out him in it.

Ted Kennedy, always thinking of others and the future, wanted to
change the rules regarding a successor, since he knew you _must_

Tubby Kennedy thought of himself only in July 1969 when he ran of
after leaving Mary Jo Kopechne to die a horrific death and called his
family lawyer before thinking about calling emergency crews to help
the young woman.

Teddy Kennedy, champion of killing babies and a bottle of scotch.

Define "top of the line". Public option does NOT rule out things like
supplemental coverage. The hope is that a public option will provide basic
coverage for all who need it. That's just the start. We must get overall
costs in line. We need more doctors as well as more facilities and access.
There can still be ways for profits to be made. The wealthy and powerful
will always want, demand, get premium care. That's fine...as long as they
have to pay a fair share into the overall public care that should be made
accessible to all according to need. That's what civilized nations do. We
should do better than we have.

No, that's bullshit. I'm not responsible for your care - not for the
health issues you have because of preventable behavior, and not for
unpredictable, unpreventable things either.

*You* are responsible for yourself, and taking away yet another reason
for people to take that responsibility is wrong - even before I complain
about my taxes going up because of it.

You'll notice that the Democrats are loath to honestly frame it as you
did ( "on everyone's dime" ) because self-respecting, free people
everywhere find such a scheme repellent.

A successful insurance program -- one meant to provide coverage in all

I fear that makes him not much different from many Americans today. When

Are you serious? Unemployment is rampant, credit has tightened up, we're
on the brink of increasing inflation, and you question a program that
will take more of people's income, that will take money rather spent on
their families, will take money that would have been saved for school?

You wonder why people who have made the right decisions and sacrifices
and who have been responsible to not just sit back and eat a shit
sandwich to cover those people who haven't?

No, that's not at all what's happening. People are not huge fans of
insurance behemoths. But most of them prefer dealing with them to the
idea of entrusing their care to government.

Self-interest is not "greed" and it's not automatically "mean-spirited".

That's not "insurance". That's single-payer socialized government health
care.

Insurance is a product a consumer can choose to purchase from among
competing providers who choose to sell it.
Post by Gogarty
And are yu saying that the rest of the people in the world, who enjoy
the benefits of universal helath care, are not free?
There are degrees of freedom. All else equal, a person in a compulsory
health care system, without the choice not to participate, is less free
than a person who is *not* in a compulsory system.

Doctors who can charge market rates and accept or refuse coverage from
payers (insurance companies) based on how fast and how much they'll pay
are freer than doctors who do not have those choices.
Post by Gogarty
You come across as an extraordinarily selfish person.
Funny, I see it the other way: you're demanding something from me to
which you're not entitled. That seems much more selfish than wanting to
keep what's already mine.
